How to Develop Your Furry Character (OC)

Your character is defined not so much by the costume itself — how fancy or expensive it is — but by how you bring it to life. In many ways, your personality - ie your personal values, talents, and daily routines already shape who your character is. What matters is what you choose to express: what you talk and write about, what you photograph, how you act.

Get started! Buy a fursuit you like and can afford, visit fursuit con/meetup or sign up on 1–2 social media platforms, and post 5–10 times to kick things off.

Skip this step if you already started.

1. Study the character archetype table. Analyze your current socials/blog content and based on it define your main archetype and 1–2 supporting ones.

2. Name your character's core concept. Write it down. Do you like how it sounds and feels?

3. Compare your character's actions at cons/your blog content with the “How the character acts” column (for your main and supportive archetypes). Ask yourself: "What can I add to my character to make them stand out more, feel more consistent, and be truly memorable?" Then create a content plan based on that.

4. If you like a certain archetype but your character doesn’t fit it yet — try playing a new role!

5. Create new content with your updates in mind. Act accordingly at cons or your blog. Every 1–2 months, revisit steps 2–4. Is your character evolving?
