How to choose first fursuit head for beginners

Do you plan to start visiting furry conventions? Here are factors that you need to consider while choosing a fursuit head:

GENERAL FURSUIT SPECIFICATONS ONEANDONLYCOSTUMES   FURSUIT SPECIFICATIONS

Comfort – You’ll likely be wearing it for extended periods, so comfort is key. Comfort means:

1/ Head material: Choose a lightweight material that won’t trap heat, like foam or resin with strategic airflow openings.

2/ Head weight: Ensure it isn’t too heavy.

3/ Vision: Clear vision is crucial in crowded spaces. Make sure you can see well enough to navigate the con safely.

4/ Ventilation

5/ Visibility: Some fursuit heads have larger eye holes that allow for a wider field of vision.

1/ Our fursuit heads are built of soft foam and lined inside with polyester with lycra (maw is not lined inside).

2/ The average weight of our head is 650-700g (lightweight).

3/ Netting (better vision than buckram, eyes are not seen from outside).

4/ Heads are ventilated through the eyes (breathable netting) and mouth (manually regulated jaw – built-in wires on both sides).

5/ The space between the eyes is 4-5 cm, which allows seeing well with both eyes. The FOV (field of view) is around 230° horizontally and 130° vertically.

Style and Expression

  1. Design: Decide whether you want a realistic, semi-realistic, or toony (cartoon-style) head. Toony heads are usually lighter and more expressive, while realistic ones can have detailed fur and patterns.

  2. Facial Expression: Choose an expression that fits your character’s personality. A friendly, happy face is often great for cons because it invites interaction.

  1. Our fursuits are toony (cartoon-style).

  2. Our fursuits are smart-looking. A posable tongue on velcro (2 modes – long and short) can be added on request to all "made to order" fursuit heads.

Budget

  1. Pre-Made vs. Custom: If this is your first head, a pre-made one is typically more affordable and quicker to get. Custom heads can be pricier but allow for more personalization and creativity.

  2. Fur quality & durability: Higher-quality materials will be more durable and look better, but they can cost more. Balance your budget with quality to get something that lasts through several cons.

  1. We recommend premade versions for beginners. Once fursuiting is understood better, one can see their own needs better and commission a more sophisticated version.

  2. Our fursuits are 90% sewn (skin) and 10% glued (paw pads, hair, eyes, nose, brows). According to our clients, they last 6-7 years. Our fursuits can be hand washed.

Fit and Sizing

  1. Head Size: Make sure the fursuit head fits snugly but not too tight. Most makers provide size charts or adjust the head to fit your specific measurements if it's custom.

  2. Jaw Articulation: Some fursuit heads have moving jaws. If this is something you like, check if the jaw movement fits your face and feels natural.

  1. SIZE - TOP IMPORTANT!!!
Please measure your height, head circumference (with glasses if you wear glasses), and head height. Compare your measurements to the specifications given for each model.
Our heads are not equipped with back zippers.

  2. Our fursuits have manually regulated jaws (for better breathing). Our jaws are not moving.

Durability

  1. Wear and Tear: Conventions can be tough environments. Choose a fursuit head made of durable materials that can withstand being bumped, hugged, and touched by others.

  1. Our fursuits can withstand being bumped, hugged, and touched by others. In case of more damage, we can provide repair consultation (materials and technology).

Maker Reputation

  1. Reviews: If you're buying or commissioning a head, look at reviews or talk to others in the furry community for recommendations on reputable makers.

  2. Turnaround Time: Make sure to order or commission the head well in advance, as custom heads can take weeks or months to complete.

1/ Please read reviews – they are valuable source of information as they provide detailed customer experience.
